Raptors, dinosaurs, similes and a metaphor

- It says here, “A metaphor is like a simile.” I don’t get it.

- It’s a joke. A simile is used to define a metaphor.

- But aren’t they the same?

- Oh no. They’re like dinosaurs and raptors.

- They’re both dead?

- No—

- One eats the other?

- No—

- I know, I know. One swoops in, with its razor sharp teeth, focused on its prey, while the other just lumbers along saying, “Look how pretty I am.”

[Pause]

- Good enough.
