My people

- You heard? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac agreed to allow tenants to stay in foreclosed properties instead of evicting them.

- They were evicting them?

- Yeah. They figured that emptying the properties would make them easier to sell.

- Even though the tenants were paying the rent?

- Yup.

- But with all those foreclosures, it'd mean empty properties all over. It'd mean destroying neighborhoods.

- Not to mention decreasing property values.

- Totally stupid. Didn't Congress do something about it?

- They thought they did. But evictions were going on anyway.

- What finally stopped them?

- Legal aid lawyers. The lawyers took up the tenants' cases and forced Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to change their policies for thousands of tenants across the U.S.

- They sound like heroes.

- They are, as far a I'm concerned.
